Know MAHARASHTRA



It is the richest state in India, contributing 15% of country’s industrial output.

Maharashtra is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Gujarat and the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the northwest, Madhya Pradesh to the northeast, Chhattisgarh to the east, Karnataka to south, Andhra Pradesh to the southeast, and Goa to the southwest.
The estate covers an area of 307,731 km (118,816 sq mtr) or 9.84% of total geographical area of India. Mumbai, the capital city of the state, is India’s largest city and the financial capital of the nation. 
Marathi is the official language of the state, while English and Hindi are also spoken throughout Maharashtra.

The Western Ghats better known as Sahadri, are a hilly range running parallel to the coast, at an average elevation of 1200 metres  (4000 ft ).
Kalsubai, a peak in the sahayadris, near Nashik City is the highest elevation point in Maharashtra . To the west of these hills lie the Konkan coastel plains 50-80 kilometers in width.
To the east of the Ghats lies the flat Deccan Plateau. The Western Ghats from one of the three watersheds of India, from which many South Indian River originate, notable among them being Godavari River, and Krishna, which flow eastward into the Bay of Bengal, forming one of the greatest river basins in India.

Maharashtra is divided into six revenue divisions, which are
further divided into thirty-five districts. These thirty- five districts are further divided into 109 sub-divisions of districts and 357 talukas.

The six administrative divisions in Maharashtra state are Amravati Division, Aurangabad division, konkan division, Nagpur Division, Nashik division, Pune Division.

Geographically, historically and according to political sentiments, maharastra has five main regions:
 Vidarbh Region – (Nagpur and Amravati division )-
Marathwada region – ( Aurangabad division )

 Khandesh and northern Maharashtra Region – ( Nashik devision )

 Desh or western Maharashtra region – ( Pune division )and

 Konkan Region – ( konkan division )
  The state capital Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban Area are the parts of the Konkan Division.
